─ Technologies for the Construction of On-Orbit Data Centers ─
DigitalBlast, Inc. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Shingo Horiguchi), a company that develops compact life science experiment devices and supports the revitalization of the space industry and new business creation, is pleased to announce its participation as a collaborative partner in the project “Technologies for the Construction of On-Orbit Data Centers.”
As the future leading entity of the “Space AI Cloud” business, DigitalBlast is committed to fostering deeper collaboration across industry, academia, and government—transcending the boundaries between space and terrestrial sectors. By driving the large-scale deployment of these technologies, the company will actively contribute to the realization of On-Orbit Data Centers.
■ Background and Project Overview
With the rapid proliferation of satellites, the volume of data generated in orbit is increasing at an unprecedented rate. However, due to communication infrastructure limitations and technical constraints, this data remains significantly underutilized.
To address this challenge, SpaceBlast will serve as the lead organization, overseeing the entire project. Utilizing infrastructure such as space stations and satellites, the initiative aims to develop highly reliable edge computing technologies to process space-generated data directly in orbit. Furthermore, by seamlessly combining ground-based large-scale AI for planning and analysis edge AI optimized for space environments for real-time judgment and control, this project will deliver a “Space AI Cloud” service. This service will enable the rapid utilization of space data, accelerating innovation across all industrial sectors and opening new possibilities for how humanity interacts with space-derived information.
