DigitalBlast concludes a service contract with Cyclo, including the use of the gravity generation device AMAZ, for the first time in history, to conduct beer yeast cultivation experiments under multiple gravity conditions on the ISS.

DigitalBlast Corporation (Headquarters: Chiyoda, Tokyo, CEO: Shingo Horiguchi, hereinafter referred to as DigitalBlast) is pleased to announce that it has entered into a service contract with Cyclo Corporation (Headquarters: Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture, CEO: Masanobu Yamasaki, hereinafter referred to as Cyclo) that includes the use of the gravity generation device AMAZ. DigitalBlast plans to conduct the first-ever beer yeast cultivation experiment under gravity conditions simulating the moon and Mars on the AMAZ, which is aimed for installation and operation on the International Space Station (ISS) in 2024.

DigitalBlast has concluded a service contract with Cyclo, a craft beer brewing and sales company, for the cultivation experiment of beer yeast on the ISS, including the use of the gravity generation device AMAZ. Comprehensive promotion support will also be provided, leveraging technical support for space experiments and expertise in space business.

The gravity generated by rotating a part of the AMAZ device can replicate various gravity environments in addition to one-sixth of Earth’s gravity, the same as the lunar surface, allowing for simultaneous comparison. This will be the first time that comparative cultivation experiments of beer yeast in multiple gravity environments and microgravity environments on the ISS are conducted, and we are looking forward to the possibility of obtaining new data.

With this contract, Cyclo becomes the first private company to use this device.

About the Gravity Generation Device AMAZ

AMAZ is a device that is positioned as the first step in the NOAH project, which aims to construct an ecological circulation maintenance system on the lunar surface in anticipation of human lunar exploration. The device being developed will be provided as an experimental environment for corporations and research institutions.

The main purpose of this device is to study plant physiology in space environments and under lunar gravity. By rotating a part of the device, centrifugal force is used to replicate one-sixth of Earth’s gravity, the same as the lunar surface. The gravity generated can replicate various gravity environments by changing the rotation speed, in addition to one-sixth of Earth’s gravity, allowing for simultaneous comparison. Through cultivation under diverse gravity conditions, fundamental data on the plant’s response to gravity can be obtained.

A prototype has already been completed, and ground experiments are underway. The installation and operation of this device on the ISS are aimed for 2024
